Growing Up (Grundforløb)
I dette forløb skal eleverne arbejde med temaet 'Growing Up'. Formålet er en overordnet introduktion til engelskfaget i gymnasiet, de forskellige arbejdsmetoder og tilgange til tekster, samt indblik i de forskellige teksttyper, vi arbejder med.
Eleverne bliver introduceret til forskellige tekstgenrer (poetry, fairy tale, short stories, movies, non-fiction); måden de skal arbejde med disse genrer er mere indirekte analytisk end fokuseret analytisk - fokus er dermed mere praktisk end teoretisk forankret. Derudover skal eleverne arbejde med grammatik med særligt fokus på kongruens.
Forløbet afsluttes med et engelsk analytisk essay over en af teksterne, vi har arbejdet med. Her skal eleverne lære at strukturere afsnit jvf. PEE(-L)-modellen, samt skabe en rød tråd fra indledning til konklusion. Eleverne skal evaluere hinandens essays ud fra nogle synlige læringsmål via IT-systemet peergrade.io, hvor fokus ligger på at give konstruktiv kritik til deres ligemænd.
Forløbet varierer i arbejdsformer fra individuel fordybelse henover pararbejde til gruppearbejde i matrixgrupper. Fokus i arbejdsmetoder ligger dermed på høj variation af metode i forløbet.

Scandals in the Royal Family
Intro to the theme:
The theme deals with scandals in modern British Monarchy and the consequences which these scandals have had on the monarchy as an institution. These issues are examined through work with documentaries and non-fiction texts, introducing the PEE technique, documentary analysis and basic non-fiction analysis (argumentation and various devices which engage the reader). The grammatical focus is on world class, syntax and the use of particularly pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs.

Stephen King's Horror
Forløbet undersøger horror genrens karakteristika, virkemidler og mål, med særlig fokus på Stephen Kings forfatterskab og særlige tematikker. I forløbet læses interview af Stephen King samt samt et filmet interview (1989), og indebærer desuden en grundig analyse af novellen "The Boogeyman" (1973), med særlig fokus på karakteristik. Der foretages desuden en analyse af filmen "The Shining" (1980), med fokus på tematikker og horror virkemidler, bl.a. gennem analyse af filmiske virkemidler. I forløbet indgår også fokus på strukturen i den akademiske essay (5 paragraph essay) samt PEE teknikken. Det grammatiske fokus er på verbernes tider (tempus): præsens og præsens participium.

Formål:

PUNK
Purpose:
The theme is an introduction to the SRO and is interdisciplinary (English and music). It will explore the beginnings of the punk movement in the U.S. and the UK in the 1970s, with a particular focus on the UK, based on the political and societal circumstances that led to increasing unrest and a sense of powerlessness among the youth. We will analyse documentaries, non-fiction, fiction, and poetry (song lyrics). Additionally, we will work creatively on a collage in the "DIY" punk aesthetic, as well as a song lyric— as the pupils themselves (in music) will create a punk song inspired by the texts analysed. There is ongoing emphasis on refreshing the methods of the subject of English.

Formål:
This theme deals with World War One, primarily from a British/American perspective. The theme outlines the historical and cultural aspects surrounding the outbreak and duration of the war, with particular focus on the private soldiers. The analytical focus in on British propaganda, non-fiction Lloyd George's war speech (1917), fiction: Ernest Hemingway's "Soldier's Home" (1925) and poems from the trenches - and finally the analysis of cinematic devices in "1917" (dir. Sam Mendes). During our study trip to London in March, will give depth to the theme through a visit to the World War One exhibition at the Imperial War Museum.

Jack London: The Call of the Wild
Formål:
The theme centers around the reading of Jack London's novel Call of the Wild (1903). Following the theme Into the Wild (before the summer holidays), the reading of the novel includes analysis of the characteristic traits of naturalism as well as further literary fiction analysis. The analysis of the novel includes the theories of Charles Darwin and Friedrich Nietzsche, an exploration of the concept "atavism", and also the use of anthropomorphism. The reading offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in a longer work of literature and opens up to further free reading and analysis. Towards the end of the theme, we will watch the film "The Call of the Wild" (dir. Chris Sanders, 2020), discuss relevant aspects, do some analysis of cinematic devices, and finally discuss similarities and differences between the novel and the film.

Shakespeare and Love: The Sonnets
Intro to the theme:
Last year, we did "Shakespeare and Love, part 1", with an introduction to Shakespeare, his time and with reading and analysis of Romeo and Juliet's "Balcony Scene" and a workshop at the Globe Theatre in London. This short theme will focus on Shakespeare's sonnets. We will look into the background of Shakespeare's sonnets and analyse sonnets 118 and 147. Black Lives Matter (SRP optakt)
Formål:
The aim of the theme is to summarise and apply the methods of English studies through an investigation of the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States – with particular focus on the events following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. The theme is part of an interdisciplinary project with Music and History in preparation for the SRP. We will read and analyse an excerpt from Angie Thomas’ novel ”The Hate U Give” (2017), and we will watch and analyse the documentary ”8 Minutes and 46 Seconds: The Killing of George Floyd” (2020). In addition, we will analyse the lyrics of the song ”I Can’t Breathe” (H.E.R, 2020), and we will analyse and discuss both Barack Obama’s ”Address on BLM” (June 3, 2020) and President Donald Trump’s ”Speech on BLM” (June 1, 2020). Finally, we will watch, discuss and analyse the film "Fruitvale Station" (dir. Ryan Coogler, 2013).
