Open Wide (w. AH)
We focused on speaking up in class and in public. We discussed what can make it easy to speak English in front of others and what can make it hard to do.
To make you feel more comfortable speaking up, we had lots of informal practice and we were going through different text genres so you could become more familiar and comfortable with the relevant technical vocabulary.
Unfortunately, this theme was cut short because AH had to go on sick leave.
We got through two texts:
- "Is Public Speaking Really That Scary?", Tom Lamont and Viv Groskop, The Guardian, November 2, 2013, from Open Wide, Bækgaard et. al., Lindhardt og Ringhof, 2015, interview (5 ns)
- "The Death of the Short Story", J. David Stevens, 1998, from Open Wide, Bækgaard et. al., Lindhardt og Ringhof, 2015, fiction (2 ns)
Key Terms
story, poetry/poem, memoir, autobiography, prose poem, eulogy, novel, short story, lit mag, obituary, flash fiction
argument, premise, conclusion, PEE-structure, refutation/to refute
