This course introduces the students to American Suburbia through examples of different popular media. The course focuses on the prevalent issues portrayed as well as the difference in popular culture and real life.

Titel 2 British Attitudes to War I (OPGIVES)

This first part of the course introduces how Great Britain has reacted to war, starting with the romantic relationship of pre-WWI to WWI through poetry.
The focus of this course is on the relationship between the speaker, the perception of war and the differences therein. The course starts by examining and analyzing pro-war WWI posters and poetry.

This course introduces the concept of Minimalism by introducing and working with the poems of Charles Bukowski, Raymond Carver short stories and Hemingway short stories.
The students will be offered a glance at Minimalism and its characteristics through various texts and their portrayal of life in America.

This second part of the course continues to look at Great Britain's involvement in war, but this time through WWI speeches.

The focus of this course is on structuring a speech and to examine what has change in the relationship between particularly government and population, and to understand how Great Britain fared during WWII.

Titel 6 Love in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet"

Representation of Love in Romeo and Juliet. This course introduces the sonnet form through reading several sonnets and examining form, content and themes. Furthermore, the students will delve into Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet"  by reading extracts and focusing on comprehension, the representation of love as well as character analyses.
