Titel 1 Reader, writer, text

Aims and objectives in "Reader, writer, text":

Academics:

The aim is:

- To present the students for the main literary genres and terms such as tone, narrator, imagery and other textual features.

- To present the students to a broad variety of texts and genres to explore the big differences in the art of literature.

- To present the students for literary analysis and how to make a close reading of e.g. poetry or a short story through different kind of exercises and working methods.

Skills

- The students will be capable of recognizing and using the subject specific terms to practice close readings of different literary texts.

-The students will rehearse interpretation, analysis, and evaluation.

- The students will be encouraged to reflect on their role as a reader sometimes also in relation to the intention of the writer.

-Through various forms of teaching methods, the students will develop their skills in reading, listening, writing and speaking Danish.

-To make the student reflect on their thoughts and feelings about a certain text based on the literary features.

-The subject aims to make students (hopefully) appreciate literature.

Social

-The lessons will include a great amount of work in groups and pairs, so the students will be able to discuss and reflect on different perspectives and interpretations. The lessons also very often end with the teacher leading a discussion in the class.

- Through individual work and class discussions, the students will be able to reflect on their own interpretation of a literary text in relation to a community of readers. This will encourage the students to broaden their perspective.

Study
The language A guide encourages teachers to plan the course, so it fits the students needs and interests. It will be essential to focus on different genres, so as a teacher I plan to incorporate both a play, poetry, short stories, and at least one novel in this part of the course. I like to involve the students in the choice of texts, an the description of the works will be written here when I know the exact titles. As the first work I plan to work with Anders Thomas Jensens manuscript “Adams æbler” from 2005.

Works Higher level og standard level:
Jensen; Anders Thomas: Adams æbler. 2005.
Mette Thomsen: Plastic
Niviaq Korneliussen: Homo Sapienne.

Works higher level only:
Erich Maria Remarque: Intet nyt fra Vestfronten

Assessments/Evaluation
The students will be asked to write shorter or longer assignments, and the students will receive a grade and an explanation for the grade. As a part of the teaching, the students also will make short presentations during class.

Link to the TOK
- This part of the course will include a reflection on the nature of art and literature, and what purpose written works have in real life.

- We will also reflect on how the reader construct meaning based on what the writer intended and the choices of the author.  '

- A main question will also be if some interpretations are better than others, and if it is possible to make multiple reliable interpretations of the same literary text.
