AP is a linguistic course (it’s an abbreviation for ’Almen sProgforståelse’) which is taught to all first year students in the STX system during the first semester - as well as in Pre-IB.  Next to studying different aspects of language we will look at the structure of words (morphology), the structure of sentences (syntax) and not least learn how to read and understand (some) Latin. More specifically, this course will focus on preparing the students to
• be able to identify/recognize the impact (heritage) of Latin in English, Danish, French, Spanish – e.g. the most common prefixes, roots and suffixes
• categorize word classes   noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, preposition, interjection, conjunction, article
• parse a sentence (a clause) and thereby identifying the subject, verb, direct object, indirect object, object complement, subject complement,  adverb, subordinator/coordinator
• read and understand (some) Latin
• use the acquired linguistic competences when – for instance -  reading/analyzing and interpreting literature in English  - or learning a new language, studying Danish – or !
• increase their linguistic awareness in general

The course will prepare the students for a written exam in the beginning of November
