Titel 1 Going Places ÅRSPRØVE

Going Places - en introduktion til engelsk på HF/B.

We study a selection of texts which all deal with the theme 'going places', be that literally or metaphorically.

The students learn about
- basic academic reading skills and methods
- areas of analysis and interpretation: setting, characterisation, imagery, title, theme and message, focussing heavily on setting.
- how to write an academic summary
- basic grammar: verb, adjectives and adverbs, alongside some of the gammar and lingusitic tasks often found in the written examination on HF.
- how to use (online) dictionaries and thesauruses:

The course centres on the study of Traditional American values, unpacking America's past and how the frontier has impacted modern American values.

Traditional American values include: freedom & self-reliance; hard work & material wealth; equality of opportunity and competition

Titel 3 Short films

Forløb med fokus på at analysere litterære kortfilm. 5 gamle eksamens-kortfilm ses og bearbejdes ud fra eksamensoplæg (fokus- og analysepunkter), dog uden det gives i eksamensformat. Hver film analyseres i grupper og plenum ud fra de givne fokuspunkter samt de fire analytiske begreber, der er til hver i eksamenssættene. Forløbet afsluttes med skr.aflevering/analytical essays af 'On another note' og 'Reappear'.

Analysebegreber: setting, sound, conflict, message, relationship, framing, the ending, main theme, title, samt characterisation.

Titel 7 Conformity and peer pressure VÆRK

We look into the concepts 'conformity' and 'peer pressure' in relation to reading the novel 'The Wave', which deals a 1967 elaborate social experiment to help a group og high school students understand psychological mechanisms in Germany's The Third Reich better. We draw parallels to modern takes on the concepts through articles.
