Titel 1	Introductory course - Business Formålet med engelsk i grundforløbet er at præsentere eleverne for, hvad engelsk på hhx er. Forløbet har til formål at introducere eleverne til business-delen af engelsk og kommer således til at berøre forskellige aspekter af den merkantile verden. Forløbet skal også hjælpe eleverne til at nå til en afklaring af valg af skoleform i løbet af grundforløbet. Der lægges vægt på at introducere eleverne til, hvad der må antages at være et fremmed aspekt af engelskfaget, ligesom engelsk på gymnasieniveau og som selvstændig gymnasieelev er i fokus. Arbejdsformerne veksler mellem klasse-, gruppe-, par- og individuelt arbejde, ligesom der arbejdes med både elevernes kommunikative, receptive og produktive kompetencer. AIDA-modellen, kommunikationsmodellen og markedssegmentering introduceres som metoder. Eleverne afleverer to skriftlige opgaver inden for emnet business communication, og det sidste modul er afsat til præsentation af emner i grupper og evaluering. Omfang: ca. 50 s.

Case work:
You are professionals and friends who want to start up a business which is going to be located in American Dream Mall.

Step 1: Decide which type of business you are going to start up (retailing, entertainment, franchising) and make a thorough description of your choice of business. To help you get started you might want to consider these questions:
- Why/why not retailing/entertainment/franchising? (Pros and cons)
- Competitors in the mall
- Pros and cons of malls

Step 2: Describe your requirements for your shop. You might want to consider these questions:
- How much space do you need?
- Where would you prefer your shop to be located?
- How would you match the décor/interior of American Dream Mall?
- How would you stand out from competitors?
- Do you have any special requirements?
Write an e-mail to the administration of American Dream where you make inquiries about information on vacancy, terms of lease, prices and requirements for façade and interior.

Step 3: Create a poster to hang in the windows of the shop prior to opening. If you have chosen a franchise, you must be loyal to your franchisor when designing your poster.
The poster must include:
- Logo, name, and design of your shop
- facts about opening date, opening hours, and opening offers.
- Information about the owners/franchisees.

Step 4: Imagine that your shop has been open for a month. Unfortunately, you do not have as many customers as you had hoped. Describe your customer base using market segmentation and create a special offer/event/line of products/etc. that will be launched to attract a new segment. Explain why you want to attract that segment and how your new launch will do exactly that.

Case work requirements:
o Your work must be presented in class and everyone in the group must participate in presenting your case.
o You must make a PowerPoint-presentation in which you:
• Account for your choice of business
• Present your e-mail using the communication model
• Present your poster using the AIDA-model
• Present your current customer base along with the new segment you wish to reach
• Present your idea for reaching your new customer base
• Assess the effect of your idea for your shop
• Assess the future of retailing and shopping malls and American Dream Mall in the USA
