Titel 2 English 2 Traditional American values and beliefs

This topic takes its starting point in three pairs of traditional American values (as outlined by Kearny et al): Individual Freedom & Self-Reliance, Equality of Opportunity & Competition, and Material Wealth & Hard Work, and, not least, the notion of the 'American Dream'. Most of the texts we are going to read will be viewed in this context, and we will also look at the birth of a nation/a nation of immigrants and to an extent at whether the American Dream is available to everyone in equal measures.

Titel 3 English 3 Australian Dream

Key terms: National identity and national anthem, patriotism, outback, bush life, swagman, Terra Nullius, colonisation, Aboriginals, culture clash, superiority/inferiority, mistreatment, stolen generation, prejudice, racism, reconciliation
