A course which focus on the transition from child to adolescence to adult and how this is portrayed in various forms of media.

Titel 2 Twisted Stories

In this course we focused on various different stories that somehow include a plot twist, twisted and evil personalities or people just doing or experiencing twisted and evil things. As central part of the course was to introduce the students to analytical concepts such as narrative style, types of narration, reliable/unreliable narrators and foreshadowing.

Titel 3 Black America (E)

In this course we explore the issue of racism and discrimination of black people in throughout the history of the US. We begun by exploring how the US started as a slavenation and then we traced the history of black people in the US all the way up to present day. This means, among other things, adressing the Jim Crow laws, the civil rights movement, systemic racism and the idea of post-racist America.

Titel 5 The Future Is Written (E)

In this course we have examined the genre of dystopian science fiction and read about its characteristics.  We studied a varity of different stories and discussed how they mirror issues in our own society. We specifically focused on the portrayal of the issues: the fear of technology, surveillance, totalitarianism and artificial intelligence.

Titel 6 The Curious Incident of the Dog... (E)

In this course we have worked with the novel 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time'. The major part of the course was spent reading the 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' and discussing what issues the main character suffers from and how they impact his interactions with the world and are reflected in the style of writing/composition of the novel.

In addition to this, we also examined other texts in which mental issues played a role and affected the narrative style.

The students were introduced to analytical concepts such as narrative style, types of narration, reliable/unreliable narrators and foreshadowing.

Titel 7 Empire and Beyond (E)

In this course we read a variety of texts dealing with the British Empire and its legacy. We focus on texts which show the relationship between coloniser and colonised, how the British colonisers saw themselves and the impact of the British Empire, including the role it played in the spread of English as a global language/Lingua Franca. In addition to this, we also study examples of literature from African and by African writers to exemplify how the relationship with Britain impacted their society, culture and sense of self. In order to gain a modern perspective on how Britain's past as an empire still plays a role today, we also studied the reasons behind Brexit.

Titel 8 True Crime (E)

In this course we examined the True Crime genre. The course began with an introduction to the term 'True Crime', and we then studied what it is that fascinates people about this genre. Afterwards, we analysed a variety of different True crime stories and talked about what techniques they use to draw us in an keep us hooked and engaged. We also discussed the ethical issues that journalists, writers and viewers must consider when creating and consuming True crime stories. This, among other things, involved trying to view the true crime genre from the perspective of the victims.
