Titel 3 Horror

This topic will focus on three different subgenres of the horror genre: Horror mirroring the human psyche, horror mirroring society, and horror mirroring human nature. For each topic, we will go through varying texts, both fiction and non-fiction, and discuss their relation to the horror genre and the deeper meanings behind it. We will cover Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis and terms like social commentary.

Titel 7 Dystopia EXAM TOPIC

We will investigate dystopian themes in literature. In reading and watching works of the dystopian genre, students will identify and analyze how a dystopian author can turn an inquisitive eye on their own societies in answering this question. Critical and analytical discussions and writing will be required.

Titel 9 Dividing Issues in the US

In this topic the students will be define the diving issues of ‘abortion’, ‘euthanasia’ and ‘the death penalty’.
Furthermore, the students will learn how to evaluate arguments for and against abortion (pro-life and pro-choice) and evaluate the alternatives to abortion, explain the difference between active and passive euthanasia, explain the difference between voluntary and non-voluntary euthanasia and as well as, explain different beliefs about the right to self-determinism.
Lastly, the students will be able to evaluate arguments for and against the death penalty and explain different aspects of the methods of execution, the US states with and without the death penalty.

Titel 12 Dead v. Dangerous EXAM TOPIC

This topic will give the students the opportunity to look at educationally themed films from a fresh angle. The topic called “Dead Poets Society Vs. Dangerous will examine how these films can shape teachers’ ideas of what an educator is, the different teaching strategies and how the way in which social issues are portrayed shapes the way the films are perceived. Titel 14 Monsters and Madness EXAM TOPIC

Horror: We will explore the concept of the horror genre in general but mostly the gothic horror in the Victorian era through different articles, excerpts of classic novels from Shakespeare to the modern age. We will discuss the ways of human nature and predestination vs free will, the latter with particular focus on the main characters in Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth as well as the Elizabethan era. We will talk about which features a story and its characters have to contain in order to be considered gothic horror.
