Knowledge and Politics and Exhibition Preparation
TOK Unit 5 and 6: Knowledge and Politics and Exhibition Preparation.
Description:
This unit will combine lessons on our second optional theme: knowledge and politics and lessons on preparing for the TOK exhibition. These will intertwine a bit because of the way the exhibition road map works. I’ve separated the two topics below for clarity:
Knowledge and Politics: In this unit we will examine how political structures are formed in different places at different times, the links between power and truth, and the role of language in political discourse. We will also explore tyranny, of how political regimes control knowledge and manipulate truth. Additionally, Jonathan Haidt's five moral foundations will be examined to understand how political ideologies appeal to different moral intuitions, shaping political decisions and influencing the distribution of power.
Key Questions:
What is politics?
What influences our political decisions?
What are the problems with different political structures?
How does language influence knowledge in politics?
Aims:
To understand what political knowledge is.
To understand why people have different political opinions.
To understand how some regimes abuse power to manipulate truth for political gain.
