THE PRODUCT AND CLASS PRESENTATION

2) An analysis of the song lyrics and the music (see methods for analysing poetry and music in the back of this compendium).
3) Your product must be presented as a power point presentation which includes central points and images that match your presentation – and of course also the actual song.

During this topic, we learn about the Apartheid system in South Africa. We zoom in on the two anti-apartheid activists,, Steven Biko and Nelson Mandela and their ardent struggles for equal civil rights. We also read two short stories which shed light on the racism black people would experience, but also on the complications that a relationship between blacks and whites could have. With the Trevor Noah interview, we moreover learn more about the consequences the now no longer existing Apartheid system still has on South Africans today.

Global English
Dr. Ada Uzoamaka Azodo, Interview with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Barack Obama, The American Promise (2008)
Film: The Pursuit of HappYness (2006)

The topic takes it's starting point with the phrase: The American Dream and what this entails. We read the Declaration of Independence and talk about the purpose of this document. We also learn about the first frontiers men who created the America that we know of today.

Lazarus, Whitman and Hughes are read with the purpose of learning about how to read poetry and also to look at the America that is depicted through these poems.

Adichie's TedTalk inspired us to talk about the importance of learning about other cultures - mainly about seeing things from other people's perspective too, so that we don't always judge people and things based on only a "single story".

Adichie's, The Thing Around Your Neck, gives a more critical view on the American Dream - and the story holds an interesting POV.

As a brief interlude we learned about the development of the English language and English as a global language.

Finally, we made a rhetorical analysis of Obama's speech and whatched The Pursuit of HappYness.

Titel 11 Gothic Stories - EKSAMEN

In this course on Gothic Literature, the students are introduced first to the features of the genre and the notions of the Other, the Uncanny and the Doppelgänger motif. We'll be reading fictional texts, short stories, poetry and an excerpt from Jane Eyre. Reading Poe, we will in particular focus on his style of writing, narrative technique and the gothic features in The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart. In Jane Eyre we'll focus on Bertha Rochester, the madwoman in the attic, as she holds many of the traits that this course revolves around. Also Jane will be looked at as an Other and of course the setting of Thornfield Hall as the perfect location for a gothic tale. Excerpts of Frankenstein are read with focus on narration and gothic features. Lastly, we read, The Yellow Wallpaper, with focus on symbols (the estate, the wallpaper and the moon) and themes: madness and gender roles. We compare the narrator's situation to that of the women in Brontë's story too.
