Things That Haunt Us and I Am Legend - EKSAMEN
The aim of this topic is to learn about the genres of horror and science fiction. With an introduction by Stepen King and the TedTalk, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoYrpA3v-38 we learn what it is about horror that fascinates us. The students are introduced to literary terms such as, Sci-Fi, horror, and two types of dystopia: post-apocalyptic and statist dystopia.
We read two classic horror stories by Edgar Allan Poe: The Raven, in which we primarily focus on poetic features and character development, and The Tell-Tale Heart, focussing on narration and POV and language. We read Bradbury's, The Pedestrian, with focus on the setting and atmosphere and Eastmouth is looked at as a modern horror-story.
We read Richard Matheson’s novel, I am Legend, 1954, with special attention to genre features, the setting and atmosphere and character development. Watching the film with the same title, we compare the book and the film, especially the ways in which the film adaptation is different to the original story and ending.
Our reading of non-fiction texts centered sround the killing of Macklin Good by ICE agents in January 2026 and we take a closer look at who ICE are and how they are organised, discussing whether they may be defined as a secret police force.
