Titel 3 SRP1 - Gender equality + speech analysis

In this course, we focus firstly on the theme of gender equality and secondly on speech analysis. The course is a shared one with social studies (SRP1).
Emma Watson's speech at the UN (2014) functions as the central object for analysis in class and in a written group assignment. In addition to this, there will be a focus on writing and presenting TED talks on gender equality in groups.

We focus on different types of mental illnesses and problems, how to live with these, reactions from others and tendencies in society.
In the topic we work with the representation of mental illnesses and problems in a variety of genres and thus with analysis of and analytical terms linked with both fiction, non-fiction, film and poetry.

In this theme we read a variety of texts concerning the history of African Americans with jumps in time from the period after the civil war, the time during the civil rights movement, the differences between North and South and the present day. Inklusiv SRO med samf

We focus on the concept of the American Dream from different perspectives and in different historical contexts. We study the origin of the American dream, how it inspires and motivates and how the ideas clash with reality. Thus we focus in particular on inequality and some of its causes and consequences in American society.

Titel 9 Divided Kingdom - Brexit and Beyond (EXAM)

In this course we focus on Brexit. Firstly we concentrate on causes for Brexit and the campaigns leading up to the referendum. Secondly we turn to Brexlit and how Brexit and the consequences of this are thematised in various texts.

Central themes are: division, disunion, poverty and social class, inequality, xenophobia, identity, centre-vs-periphery and marginalisation, language and power.

Titel 10 Unsex Me (EXAM)

In this topic, we focus on different aspects of gender issues: sex vs. gender, gender as a social construct, gender norms, feminism, sexual orientation and the debate about gender equality and freedom which takes place more or less explicitly in a variety of examples from different text types.

Titel 12 Macbeth (EXAM)

In this course, we focus on the world view in the Elizabethan Age - in particular "the great chain of being" and how this is mirrored in Shakespeare's play "Macbeth". In our study of Macbeth, themes such as ambition, revenge and character development are central while we also work with aspects of the language of the play. We watch Kurzel's adaptation of the play and draw parallels to the contemporary American series "House of Cards".
