Titel 5 5. Lingua Franca

I forløbet er eleverne indledningsvist blevet introduceret til begrebet Lingua Franca og Braj Kachrus model “The Three Circles of English”. I forlængelse heraf arbejdede de med deres egne erfaringer med brugen af engelsk som et Lingua Franca. Herefter arbejdede vi med begreberne "Standard English" og "Variations of English" hvor vi arbejdede med en lang række eksempler fra "The International Dialects of English Archive". Forløbet blev afsluttet med en mundtlig aflevering, hvor eleverne skulle tale om "English as a Foreign Language and English as a Lingua Franca" ud fra følgende spørgsmål:

What are your experiences with learning English as a foreign language? What is difficult, what is easy, and what would you like to improve on?

What are your experiences of using English as a lingua franca? Are some non-native speakers easier than others to communicate with? Where have you used  English as a Lingua Franca? And if you have not used English as a Lingua Franca, why is that?

How do you think you will use your English language in the future? For studies? For travelling? For work? Or for something else?
