Titel 1
Course outline for Visual Arts HL/SL
The three strands of the IB Visual Arts course include:
Theoretical practice (the critic)
Art-making practice (the maker)
Curatorial practice (the curator)
The three strands are introduced and integrated in the self-chosen themes studied and the self-chosen practices practiced over the course of the Visual Arts (VA) course.
During the VA-course, an introduction to the history of art is organized in themes generated by the students. Individual art-pieces are produced recurrently. These integrate the processes recorded in the process journal and the portfolio representing the students’ development of their individual art practice. The themes are approached as open-ended and investigated from choices that each student accounts for with reference to what s/he/they may choose to investigate and work with giving informed accounts for why and how this demonstrates and is presented in his/her/their investigational practice. Also, presentations to the class are included in the didactic and pedagogical teacher plan. Introductions to the three subject components are given as an integral part of the course.
