Dead Poets Society
Kernestof:
- "Dead Poets Society" by Peter Weir (1986, film)

American Speeches

Titel 17
Navigating Crisis: Global Challenges
This topic explores how major global crises in 2025/26 are communicated, framed, and debated through nonfiction texts and contemporary political rhetoric.
Examples of current global crises could be:
- the ongoing war in Ukraine and the Middle East
- climate volatility
- rising social unrest worldwide
- misinformation and fake news
- economic instability
- radicalisation and extremism
- US political uncertainty and global implications
The students investigate how the media use language strategically to influence public opinion and shape political narratives, drawing on primarily opinion pieces from online media. We will, however, also read a couple of speeches and public announcements.
We wil work with key rhetorical concepts, the three modes of appeal, and argumentation strategies, supported by contemporary analyses of rhetoric in media communication.
Points of discussion will be:
- How are global crises presented rhetorically in the media.
- How do opinion writers use rhetorical strategies to shape debates about democracy, security, global politics, and national identity?
- How does rhetoric influence our understanding of international politics and future global developments?

Værklæsning: The Thing Around Your Neck
Adichie: The Thing around your Neck (2009)
• The Historical context (fra Africa Unfold, Lindhardt og Ringhof, 2015)
• Lagos, Parts unknown (TV-Documentary, CNN, 2017)
• Adichie: The Danger of a Single Story (TED-talk)
Fokus på tre noveller:
• Cell One
• The Thing around your Neck
• Selvvalgt novelle fra samlingen
