Gothic Horror - EKSAMEN
The course introduces students to the historical development of Horror from its early beginnings in the late 1700s until today. During the Gothic Horror course, students analyse a number of horror stories, horror films, tv-ads, and tv-series. They learn to identify the typical elements that define the genre. Moreover, the course teaches students to identify and reflect on the representations of the following recurring figures/archetypes in horror: the psychopath, the ghost, the vampire, and the zombie. They learn how representations of these archetypes have changed since the genre's early beginnings until today. The students discuss why people read/write gothic horror and reflect on how the genre helps us examine socially and culturally topical themes that are otherwise taboo.
