I dette forløb er der fokus på 'Identites'/personality. Vi træner tekstlæsning gennem forskellige teksttyper: En TED-talk, en novelle, et digt, en spoken word film, en spillefilm og et romanuddrag. Vi ser på, hvilke aspekter der påvirker vores identitet og muligheder for at udfolde den, så som race, venner & familie, miljø og sexualitet og køn.

Titel 2 Fantastic Tales EKSAMEN

'Fantastic Tales' is a topic that focuses on fictional universes that are somehow unrealistic, yet recognisable such as the world we encounter in the universes of Harry Potter, Star Wars, and The Hunger Games. We are looking at the typical underdog protagonist on some form of noble quest in a setting that differs from reality (maybe even a battle between good and evil). In connection with 'The Hunger Games', we will also touch upon the notion of 'dystopian fiction'.

Vi arbejder sammen med gennemgang af forventninger til summary, short analytical essay, discussion (med fokus på Non-fiction eksamenopgaven). Hver opgavetype introduceres og efterfølgende bliver der tid til at påbegynde skriveprocessen og få vejledning dertil. Forløbet afsluttes med en skriftlig aflevering af en hel eksamensopgave 6 (om tattoveringer).

For this topic we will look at different aspects of 'mental health', both in terms of descriptions of mental health issues seen from the point of view of people diagnosed with e.g. depression. PTSD or autism, as well as how psychiatrist and society in general deal with these individuals.

This topic focuses on Trevor Noah's autobiography 'Born a Crime', which describes his childhood and teenage years growing up in South Africa. As an introduction to the book, we will read about the implementation of Apartheid. Our reading of the book circles around the themes of racism, apartheid, poverty, identity & belonging, parental love, and resilience.
In addition, we are going to watch a documentary about Noah's first solo stand up show in South Africa.

Titel 7 American values and pres. election EKSAMEN

This topic takes its starting point in the presidential election in the US (Autumn 2024), where we will listen to and analyse a couple of speeches after the results have been announced. Then we will turn to three pairs of traditional American values (as outlined by Kearny et al): Individual Freedom & Self-Reliance, Equality of Opportunity & Competition, and Material Wealth & Hard Work, and, not least, the notion of the 'American Dream'. Most of the texts we are going to read will be viewed in this context, and we will also look at the birth of a nation/a nation of immigrants and to an extent at whether the American Dream is available to everyone in equal measures. We will finish off by looking at a brief history of Hip Hop as a genre and analyse different rap texts in groups.

During our work on this topic, we will be exploring the history and the role of the English language globally as well as a lingua franca (ELF). We will briefly look at the history of English and the spread of English and the many different Englishes spoken around the world where English plays different roles. We will also explore the differences between standard English and non-standard varieties. In addition, we will examine how language can be related to a sense of national as well as personal identity.
