Beskrivelse af de enkelte undervisningsforløb (1 skema for hvert forløb)
Titel 1 Aspects of Britain

Emneafgrænsning:

I dette forløb skal vi beskæftige os med tre væsentlige aspekter ved Storbritannien, nemlig klasseopdelingen, det britiske imperium og multikulturalismen. Tilsammen tegner disse fokuspunkter et portræt af Storbritannien, som giver os en fornemmelse af dets karakter. Til en start skal vi se på, hvordan skolesystemet indvirker på klasseopdelingen samt undersøge the Glasgow effect, som refererer til den lavere forventede levetid for indbyggere i Glasgow sammenlignet med resten af Storbritannien og Europa. Dernæst stiller vi skarpt på det britiske imperium og tankesættet, som understøttede det. Slutteligt ender vi i London, hvor vi skal have et indblik i det multikulturelle samfund, som kendetegner storbyen.

I forløbet skal vi arbejde med forskellige genrer, fx noveller, digte og uddrag af selvbiografier, og indlære fagbegreber, der knytter sig til dem.

Titel 2 Fairy Tales

Emneafgrænsning: I Danmark kender de fleste til eventyr som "Den lille rødhætte", "Askepot", "Snehvide" og "Hans og Grete" fra Brd. Grimms klassiske eventyrsamling fra 1812, men findes der nogle tilsvarende britiske eventyr? Ja, det gør der, især takket været Joseph Jacobs og Andrew Lang, som i 1800-tallet indsamlede britiske folkeeventyr på samme måde som Brd. Grimm. I dette forløb skal vi læse nogle klassiske britiske eventyr og derudover læse en moderne og humoristisk version af "Den lille rødhætte". Derudover ser vi animationsfilmen Shrek og dens eventyrtræk i forhold til struktur og karakterer.

I analysen og fortolkningen af eventyrene fokuseres der på følgende ting:

Titel 3 Conspiracy Theories EKSAMEN

In a globalised world with access to the internet and an enormous amount of information, it can be difficult to tell the difference between reliable and unreliable information. In this topic we are going to focus conspiracy theories, both what may characterise these, why we/people may be attracted to them, and also look more closely at specific theories (through group work and presentations of different theories). (The majority of the texts are from the anthology 'The Science of...' edited by Lars Ulrik Tambjerg-Ravn)

Titel 4 American values and the election EKSAMEN

This topic takes its starting point in a short introduction to the history of the USA before focussing on the debate between the candidates and the results of the presidential election 2024. After the election, we will look more closely at American values, beliefs and dream(s). Most of the texts we are going to read will be viewed in this context, and we will also look at the birth of a nation/a nation of immigrants and to an extent at whether the American Dream is available to everyone in equal measures.

Titel 5 Belonging/The Perks of Being a Wallflower EKSAMEN

We will be reading the novel 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' with focus on the main character Charlie,  his mental health, his relationships with his family, English teacher and, most importantly, friends in his attempt at creating connections to people around him to achieve a sense of belonging (especially at his new school). In addition, we will look at the intertextual references made to the different novels that Charlie reads; in addition, we will watch the film based on the novel and compare the two versions of Charlie's story. To contextualise the novel, we are going to read another couple of texts with the theme of belonging.

Titel 6 English as a global language EKSAMEN

During this topic we will be exploring the history and the role of the English language  globally and as a linguag franca (ELF). We will briefly look at the spread of English and the many different Englishes spoken around the world where English plays different roles. We will also explore the differences between standard English and non-standard varieties. In addition we will explore how language can be related to a sense of national as well as personal identity.
