Jamaica and the Caribbean (EXAM)
Forløb om tredje engelsksproget område: Jamaica og de vestindiske øer/Caribien.
Vi har arbejdet med forløbet opdelt i 3 underemner:
- The History of Jamaica and the Caribbean
- Jamaican Identity, Rastafarianism and Patois
- The Windrush Generation
Hvert forløb har haft fokus på Jamaicas forbindelse til Storbritannien som imperium og kolonimagt, og hvilke konsekvenser denne kolonitid har haft for det jamaicanske folk både før og nu.
Fagligt har vi været bredt omkring og har arbejdet med fiction, point of view, primære kilder fra apprenticeship-tiden (1830'erne) og brochure til englænderne om immigranterne fra Vestindien i 1840'erne. Vi har desuden arbejdet med det retoriske pentagram, retoriske virkemidler, modtager og afsender-forhold samt genrekonventioner og -brud i en tekst af John Figueroa.
Eleverne har lavet digtanalyse med tekster af bl.a. Louise Bennett-Coverly, Claude McKay og Bob Marley med socialhistorisk og ideologikritisk analyse af temaerne, samt et lille forløb om Patois, hvor de har arbejdet med sproglig variation og grammatik samt idiomatik og ordforråd i creoler.
