The Island of Ireland EXAM ÅP
In this course, we worked with the historical and political relationship between Ireland, Northern Ireland, and United Kingdom. The students were introduced to key events in Irish history and examined how historical conflicts have shaped Irish and Northern Irish identity.
The course focused on the relationship between Ireland and Britain, including British rule in Ireland, the Easter Rising, the Irish Civil War, and the conflict known as The Troubles. Furthermore, the students explored how divisions connected to religion, politics, and national identity are still visible in Northern Ireland today.
Through historical sources, fiction, and articles, the students worked with concepts such as nationalism, colonialism, identity, conflict, and reconciliation.
