Hearts Unbound: Exploring Modern Love
What shapes and forms does love take today? How do people date in the 21st century? Is our understanding of love, relationships, and dating changing? What is ‘serial monogamy’? Why is falling in love so easy, and why are marriages so difficult to keep together? Is finding love in our late-modern society easier than ever? Or does the increase in individualization and options make it even more difficult to find true love? What kind of love makes us the happiest, and what does it take to find love and maintain a romantic relationship?

Foster (VÆRK)
In this course, we worked with Foster by Claire Keegan. The main focus of the course was on childhood, family relations, and emotional development. Through close reading and literary analysis, the students explored themes such as social inheritance, neglect, and care.
Furthermore, the students worked with literary concepts including narrative perspective and narrator types, implicit and explicit reading, as well as suspense and foreshadowing. Special attention was given to how meaning is created indirectly through silence, symbolism, and the child narrator’s limited perspective.

Crime in Fiction (samarbejde med dansk i SRO)
This course in English has focused on the genre Crime in Fiction, where students have worked on recognizing and analyzing key characteristics of crime and thriller narratives across both written texts and audiovisual media. Throughout the course, students have developed an understanding of genre conventions, including how tension is created and how narrative structure shapes the reader’s or viewer’s experience.
A central element of the course has been the analysis of filmic techniques and their role in supporting the genre. In particular, students have examined how elements such as lighting, camera angles, and sound contribute to atmosphere, suspense, and characterization, and how these techniques reinforce the themes and development of the plot.
In addition, students have worked with key concepts within the crime genre, including red herring, suspense, and set-up and pay-off, as well as the use of symbolism in both texts and films. Through these concepts, students have strengthened their ability to identify narrative devices and understand how they are used to shape audience expectations and create tension.

Miniforløb: stilleje og skriftlighed
What does it mean for a language to be global? And how does English change depending on who speaks it, where, and in what context?
In this course, we explore the English language and its many variations. A central focus has been on style and register, including the differences between spoken and written language, and how language use shifts depending on situation, purpose, and audience.
Throughout the course, students develop an awareness of what it means for English to function as a world language. We examine how English has evolved over time and how it operates today as a lingua franca, enabling communication across national and cultural boundaries. By engaging with these perspectives, students gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of English and the role language plays in shaping identity, communication, and global interaction.

The American Dream in Verse
This course explores the concept of The American Dream as it is expressed and challenged in modern song lyrics and film. The main focus has been on how the dream is represented through the perspective of immigrants and marginalized groups, as well as how it can function as a form of escapism for people facing poverty, social limitations, or personal struggles.
Through close textual analysis of selected song lyrics, students have examined how the American Dream is often portrayed as both idyllic and hopeful, yet simultaneously distant or unattainable. The lyrics studied highlight a tension between aspiration and reality, showing how the dream can symbolize freedom, success, and belonging, while also exposing inequality, disillusionment, and frustration.
In addition, the course included a study of Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. Here, the focus was on character analysis and setting, with particular attention to how social divisions, identity, and conflict are represented in a stylized urban environment. The film provided a visual and narrative counterpart to the themes found in the song lyrics, reinforcing the complexity of the American Dream as both an ideal and a source of conflict.
