Grundforløb Growing Up
Her skal eleverne lære at strukturere afsnit jvf.
Materiale:
This Be the Verse (poem by Philip Larkin)
Hansel and Gretel (fairy tale by Brothers Grimm)
Rabbits (short story by Dorothy Nimmo)
Sunday in the Park (short story by Bel Kaufmann)
Child Development (theory on parenting styles by Laura E. Berk)
Eighth Grade (movie by Bo Burnham)
Front Region, Back Region (sociological theory by Erving Goffman)

- Analysing and interpreting a literary text
- Putting a text into perspective, (socially, culturally or historically), based on a basic knowledge of a text/a topic/a theme
- Working with a varied vocabulary
- Using proper English technical terms
- Using dictionaries

English as a lingua franca

Normal People
We're reading Sally Rooney's novel from 2018 "Normal People" which is her second novel. We'll dive into aspects such as language, themes, narrative p.o.v and the characters. The main characters, Marianne and Connell, both long to fit in and find a sense of belonging. This is something that many young people can relate to and therefore it is a theme that gives the opportunity to discuss and investigate this particular theme. The novel has been reviewed a number of times and we will look at some of them as well as discussing the TV-series with the same name and compare it to the novel.

South Africa
Der er primært anvendt lærebogen "From Dompas to Democracy", Gyldendal 2015.

Materiale:
Tekster:
Ernest Hemingway: "Hills Like White Elephants" (from http://www.gummyprint.com/blog/archives/hills-‐like-‐white-‐elephants-‐complete-‐
story/printpage/) and "Mr. and Mrs. Elliot"
Raymond Carver: "Neighbors" (1981) from When Less Is More, Gyldendal, 2014
Amy Hempel: "Memoir" and "Beach Town", from "When Less is More", Gyldendal, 2014
Billeder/malerier:
Amy Bennett: "Exposure" (2007) og "Throwing Fits" (2006), from When Less Is More, Gyldendal, 2014
Andet:
Ernest Hemingway on the Iceberg theory, short text from 1956

Writing for Change
Climate writing explores what climate is, and what it might become, and it includes many different types of texts and visual artforms. Climate writers use the power of language strategically to make their audience understand and act upon the urgency of the climate crisis. They are creative climate activists, whose works prompt us to think beyond the dead-end of climate anxiety and help us envision alternative climate futures.
Purposes:
• to make a clearer bridge between working with texts in school and the real and current issues of modern society
• to look at how the view of nature has changed throughout history and to see where we stand today in our ideas of nature, esp. in the light of climate change and global warming in a largely industrialised, urbanised world
• to show that nature, climate change and sustainability can be seen from many different angles in different types of texts, non-fiction and fiction; written, audio and visual texts
Material:
Why some people don’t believe in climate science (video, BeSmart)
Before the Flood (documentary by Fischer Stevens, 2016)
Once Giants Roamed the Earth (short story by Rosaleen Love, 2005)
Big Yellow Taxi (protest song by Joni Mitchell, 1970)
