Emnet har haft fokus på motivation for at gå i krig med særlig læsning af motiverende taler. Derudover er der læst tekster med fokus på den individuelle opsebvelse af krigen og krigens konsekvenser, både de umiddelbare og de mere langsigtede. Der er brugt meget tid på at sammenligne og kontrastere de beskrevne oplevelser.
Emnet har fokuseret bredt på krig, og har ikke været fokuseret på de enkelte krige og deres historie. Det er soldatens oplevelse, der er fokuseret mest på.
