Titel 5 04 - Fairy Tales and Fantasy

This short course explores the fairy tale genre in traditional and modern versions.
The particular focus is on the cultural norms underlying the different versions of the explored texts as well as structural differences between the classical fairy tale and modern versions.

Titel 7 06 The Island of Ireland

This course aims to provide an overview over the history and political landscape of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Course methods have included the use of AI for written work, the aim of which has been to explore ways of condensing, curating and organising information that is sometimes a little confusing due to the nature of Ireland's relations with Britain.

Titel 9 08 - Normal People - værklæsning

This course focuses on Sally Rooney's 2018 novel, Normal People. Additionally, episodes from the BBC tv-series, also entitled Normal People, from 2020.
The course has incorporated a number of analysis methods: close readings focusing on characterisation, narrator, point of view and setting, long reads dealing with the structure of the novel, communication analysis, and analysis of film as well. Also, remediation has been a topic.

Titel 10 09 Victorianism

This course deals with Britain's industrial heritage and the issue of class, specifically the living- and working conditions of the working classes in England in the Victorian Age. The main focus of the course has been a reading of a substantial part of Jack London's narrative journalistic book The People of the Abyss, which was the result of Jack London's months-long experience of living undercover in London as a day labourer and relating his first-hand experiences of working-class life in the East End.

Titel 11 10 - Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet

This course has provided an introduction to the works of Shakespeare and specifically Romeo and Juliet. The focus has been on understanding the characters and on the structure and progress of the play as well as on an examination of the social codes of Renaissance England. Apart from excerpts of the play, the course has included a viewing of Baz Luhrman's film Romeo + Juliet from 1996

Titel 12 11 - Not All Child's Play

This course examines classical British children's literature through postmodernist readings of the texts. The focus has been on examining how the child's point of view challenges the logic of the societies they inhabit, how language deconstructs itself, and how categories such as author, narrator, characters and readers are blurred in the telling of the stories.
