The Music Video
We will explore the genre of the music video. We will analyze and interpret
different music videos in regard to a definition of the music video as a medium
of remediation. The music video borrows from all kinds of other media - and
we will investigate how!
Furthermore, we will focus on the technical aspects of the cinematic
techniques and of course analyze the stories that are told through
audiovisuality and the lyrics.

This theme has focused on important speeches throughout history, mainly connected to the history of the United States. Students have learned about rhetorical devices and worked with concepts such as modes of appeal, types of arguments, and metaphors in the selected speeches. They have also been given a brief explanation of the historical background of each speech. Finally, the students have written and presented their own speech.

Understanding Horror (EXAM)
In this theme, we will explore the horror genre, primarily through excerpts from classic horror novels and a short story. We will also examine theories about what frightens us and why we are fascinated by horror—often either loving or hating the genre. We will compare horror texts from different time periods and also compare horror across various media, thereby discussing different linguistic and cinematic devices. Finally - in relation to the class trip to Stockholm - we will do some work on different podcasts of horror and crime.

Fantasy (EXAM)
In this theme we have taken a look at classic as well as modern examples of the fantasy genre in litterature and film. We have focused on fantasy traits in terms of character archetypes, specifically the hero, and magical inventory. Throughout the theme we have adressed the different settings of the texts with the three terms for world building: Secondary, parallel and co-existing worlds, and discussed how fantasy worlds have rules just like ours.

Black America (Novel: Dear Martin) (EXAM)
In this theme, we have taken a cultural, and social approach to racism, identity and prejudice in relation to Black Americans in contemporary American society. The main text of the theme has been the novel "Dear Martin" while we've also analyzed and interpreted a song and watched part of a documentary. In working with the novel we have adressed terms such as double consciousness and racial profiling and focused on characterizations, style of writing and the relation to the previously read speech "I have a Dream" by Martin Luther King Jr.
