A short course about the turbulent history of Australia seen from different angles and genres. We’ll deal with themes like identity, aboriginal culture and the stolen generation In this course we start by digging into the history and facts on all things Australian.

Titel 4 USA!!?

A course about the issues that concern Americans today seen in the light of the presidential election in 2024. We start out by getting an understanding of the Democratic and Republican parties and the  election process. Here we look at Congress, the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Supreme Court and their respective functions.
We then dig into the issues dealt with in this election, Pro Choice, and Illegal immigration.

Titel 6 The British Empire

British Empire

THE BRITISH EMPIRE
Once upon a not so distant past Britain ruled about a quarter of the globe. How this came to be and how it affected the places they came to possess, is what this course will deal with.
Firstly, we'll read  texts that'll give an insight into the colonizers' minds, then we'll read a couple of texts from the perspective of the colonized in what is characterised as postcolonial literature. As part of this we'll also discuss concepts like "White Saviorism" and Lingua Franca.

UTOPIA OR DYSTOPIA?
A theme about the utopias and dystopias in English literature. Here we'll read the novel "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. However, we'll start by defining the concepts utopia and dystopia through examples from popular culture and a reading of the Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron".

In this course the main focus will be on the period known as "the Roaring Twenties" and the so-called "Lost Generation". 

We'll be reading a novel, and a short story and we'll watch a movie to get an understanding of the time and the authors that wrote about it.

Titel 10 Shakespeare's Macbeth

Shakespeare’s Macbeth
Elizabethan England, Shakespeare and his tragedy "Macbeth" are the focus of this theme.
We start out with reading about the context of the tragedy and then we read selected scenes from "Macbeth".
The genre itself as well as themes such as gender, sleep, the Great Chain of Being and fate vs free will are all dealt with throughout the reading. For this theme you'll create a website about Shakespeare, his works and his time.
