Focus will be on the different sub-genres of crime literature and how to analyze short stories and movies.

The class is going to continue the work from1g about the subject "Crime in Fiction".
The class will read Edgar Allen Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue", and discuss what makes this story a crime story.
The main focus will be on group work analyzing a crime series or a crime movie using the relevant analytical and literary terms.

SOUTH AFRICA (eksamensemne):
A subject with a focus upon Nelson Mandela, the apartheid system, Tell Freedom by Peter Abrahams, Steve Biko and the black consciousness movement, and short stories by Nadine Gordimer. To introduce this subject about another English speaking country than the US and Britain, we will read two poems by John Agard and talk about English as lingua franca.

NEW YORK:
n this subject the students will work with the history of New York and important literature: mainly poems and short stories, and music about or from New York. The subject prepares the students for a student trip to N.Y.
In New York the students will meet with Danish journalist Isak Hüllert and discuss how to get a career in NY. The discussion will focus on the possibilites and problems with starting a career in a big city like New York.
The Students will also visit the UN Headquarters in NY and learn about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of UN.

ANIMAL FARM:
The students will both do class work, group work and work on their own reading the novel/novella and working with different aspects of the story. They will watch a short video about the Russian Revolution & Animal Farm, and pair the characters from "Animal Farm" with the real persons of The Russian Revolution.

The novella will also be used in TF7, a collaboration with History about The Russian Revolution where the students will create a thesis statement and make an innovative product in order to learn how to work project orientated preparing them for SRP.

Titel 3 Immigration to the US

In collaboration with Italian the class will work with a subject about (mainly) Italian immigration to the US in the early 1900s. The subject will focus on the dream about a new life in the USA, the American Dream, the arrival at Ellis Island and "real" life in the USA.
The class will work with immigrant stories about arriving in the US, The short story "The Odyssey of a Wop by John Fante and a movie about immigration to the US.
They will make a poster that sums up the most important elements of the subject.

Titel 4 UTOPIA/DYSTOPIA: Eksamensemne

The students will get an introduction to what utopia and dystopia is. They will also choose a dystopian novel to read during their Christmas holiday.
After reading a couple of short stories and watching the movie 1984, the students will each make a podcast/ audio file about their dystopian story in which the make characterizations of the main character(s), describe the setting and argue what makes the story dystopian.
