Titel 1 Grundforløb i engelsk

Engelskgrundforløbet om ”Crime and Violence”

I grundforløbet for engelsk har vi haft et tematisk fokus på ”Crime and Violence”. Sigtet med forløbet har været dels at læse, forstå og analysere tekster om temaet, dels at introducere eleverne til grundlæggende engelskfaglige kundskaber og værktøjer. Det drejer sig navnlig om begreberne fiction og herunder narrator, setting, theme & message og characterization og non-fiction og herunder sender, receiver, message, intention og context. Ikke mindst har vi også kort beskæftiget os med style of writing. Desuden har vi kigget på S-V-kongruens, adjektivernes brug og komparation samt placeringen af S og V i deklarative og interrogative sætninger. Vi har også beskæftiget os med et serieafsnit og set på det som en tekst, ligesom vi har lavet en lytteøvelse. Eleverne har også skrevet et essay ligesom de har løst nogle sproglige opgaver og begge dele har eleverne afleveret som en hjemmeopgave.

This theme works with American Icons. We will look at symbols and things which are important to Americans and which say something about American culture. We will read texts and poems about America, and watch a film, which tells the story of some emigrants leaving Europe to follow the American dream. This is the first of two themes about America.

Titel 5 The English Class System (exam)

I dette forløb har vi arbejdet med det britiske klassesamfund set fra et litterært/kunstnerisk og samfundsmæssigt perspektiv. Fra fiktionen har vi bl.a. beskæftiget os dels med en tekst fra Victoriatiden (Oliver Twist), dels med et afsnit af tv-serien Downton Abbey og filmen The Riot Club. En stor del af fokusset har der dog været på den historiske og samfundsfaglige del gennem læsning af en række sagprosatekster og videoindslag. Omdrejningspunktet for forløbet har været klasseforskellenes påvirkning på det britiske samfund som det kommer til udtryk i politik, økonomi og uddannelse.
I forløbet er eleverne blevet introduceret til og har arbejdet indgående med den retoriske pentagon foruden andre analyseværktøjer til brug af fiktions- og sagprosaanalyse. Ydermere har vi i forløbet arbejdet med filmanalyse.

Moving Pictures - analysis of films introduces films as another way of telling stories – besides the texts. We can use many of the same tools we use in ordinary text analysis, but films have characteristics, which are unique to this genre. We will look at these and analyze short films as well as a film by Ken Loach.

America II: This theme aims to give an impression of America through a tour of American texts. Although belonging to different genres (poetry, prose, speeches etc.) they all express American values or attitudes to America. The texts are arranged chronologically, spanning from the national anthem from 1814 to a modern short story from 2011.

Titel 12 American TV-series

This theme analyzes a number of American TV-Series and looks at specific aspects, which characterize this genre. The analysis places emphasis on the characters, the imagery, contrasts and irony, intertextual references and a view to contemporary Western society. Structure, Gothic elements and the role of this genre on the contemporary general media scene are also analyzed.
Criteria for American TV-Series, as collated from American Viewers are also part of the analysis. These include: anticipation of viewer, focus on relationship in the episodes, characters, the ability to challenge the viewer, the ability to involve the viewer, the ability to provoke the viewer.
The theme includes independent group work with series chosen by the students.

Mercy or murder? Euthanasia.
On Webster.com, Euthanasia is defined as the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals (such as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy.
We will explore the issue through articles, films, poems and legal documents.  We will look at the arguments from both sides, the logic, the emotion, the facts, and the personalities who played and plays a role in the story of euthanasia.
