Hemingway (exam)
Forløbet beskæftiger sig med den amerikanske forfatter Ernest Hemingway. Vi skal læse en del af Hemingways noveller, hvor klassiske Hemingway-træk er tydelige, bl.a. ’the iceberg technique’. Vi vil arbejde med temaer, som Hemingway beskæftiger sig med f.eks. forholdet mellem barneverdenen og voksentilværelsen, døden, tiden efter første verdenskrig og maskuline værdier.

Mercy or murder? - euthanasia (exam)
Mercy or murder? Euthanasia.
On Webster.com, Euthanasia is defined as the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals (such as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy.
We will explore the issue through articles, films, poems and legal documents. We will look at the arguments from both sides, the logic, the emotion, the facts, and the personalities who played and plays a role in the story of euthanasia.
In the non-fiction analysis we have used the rhetorical pentagon, and worked with the appeal forms with the ultimate goal of assessing the reliability of the texts.
The different genres makes it relevant to discuss different ways of conveying an approach to the theme.
The aim is to make the students aware of the difference between an emotional/spontaneous opinion and an informed opinion, based on knowledge og the subject.

Different Worlds (exam)
The theme ”Different Worlds” explores different English-speaking countries and their colonial past from which English is derived. We will look at the role of the English language as a global language.
The reason for English becoming a global language is taught, in this connection imperialism is discussed and knowledge from history cleasses is used. A number of the studens are multilingual, which is also part of our discussions.
The texts describe the culture clash between the original cultures of the respective countries and the English language imposed in connection with the imperialization.

Literary History (exam)
The Elizabethan Age is represented through Shakespeare’s work, where a tragedy and a number of sonnets are analyzed.
The Romantic Age is concerned primarily by the gothic tale, with emphasis on “the workings of the madman”.
The Victorian Age follows up on the gothic tale with an excerpt of Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. A contemporary biographical film on Wilde is used to highlight his life as an antithesis to the strict morals of the Victorian era. This work is not analyzed as a film, but more as background and general description of an era and a view of the world.
Modernism is represented by Hemingway in a separate theme. Apart from that, we have read D.H. Lawrence’s The Snake, and worked with minimalism and the theme of man and nature.
The contemporary age: Alice Munro’s novelle Child’s Play (2009) (skrevet værk) is a psychological text with a complicated timeline, which represents horror in its modern form. The students have worked with structure and the description of the formation of the human mind through the two main characters, who are strongly impacted by an incident in their childhood.

Læringsmålene for forløbet er følgende:
- Eleverne kender plottet for værket og kan referere til de læste uddrag under inddragelse af begreber såsom ”The Chain of Being” og den litterære periode ”The Renaissance”
- Eleverne kan også tale om det poetiske sprog og karakternes udvikling under anvendelse af relevante tekstpassager. Her bruger eleverne begreberne “iambic meter”, ”personification”, ”metaphor”, ”tragedy”
- Eleverne kan redegøre for de læste sonnetter og kan opstille en definition for en typisk Shakespeareansk sonnette. Eleverne har arbejdet med sonneterne i grupper og præsenteret dem for hinanden. Forbindelsen til værkst er primært formmæssig, da sonnetternes tema er kærlighed.
