Serious Business (exam)
I dette almene forløb satte vi fokus på humor. Forløbet faldt i to dele: 'Satire and Irony' & 'Pastiche and Parody'.
Først læste vi om 'Philosophy of Humour' og tre overordnede humorteorier: The Superiority Theory, The Relief Theory & The Incongruity Theory. Herefter læste vi om mange forskellige 'humorous devices' fra humor-værktøjskassen, hvorefter vi var klar til at dykke ned i selve materialet til de to underemner.

Satire & Irony:
Jonathan Swift, 'A Modest Proposal' (1729) (satire, non-fiction)
Colin Cohen, 'No Death Penalty, No Easter Bunny' (2003) (satire, non-fiction)
Focus: satire, speaker, persona, structure, targets, political weapon, hyperbole, absurdity, incongruity, irony, sarcasm, social/political criticism.
Pastiche & Parody:
Hanif Kureishi, 'The Penis' (1999) (short story, fiction)
Shakespeare, 'Sonnet 130' (1609) (poetry, fiction)
Wendy Cope, 'Strugnell's Sonnet III' (1986) (poetry, fiction)
Focus: pastiche, parody, postmoden literature, low comedy, absurdity, incongruity, pun, social criticism, hyperbole, Shakespearean sonnet form, rhyme scheme, iambic pentameter, quatrains, rhyming couplet, volta, contrasts, antitheses, irony, male/female humour.
Undervejs i forløbet har eleverne selv skrevet en satire. De har også fundet materiale til 'Today's smile' (et kort klip i starten af lektionen, som de selv syntes var sjovt, og som de skulle forklare via humorværktøjskassen og humorteorierne).
