Titel 1 Introduction

Initially, the students will be introduced to the subject and its theoretical and practical content. The basic musical parameters melody, harmony, form, rhythm/groove and sound will be introduced through listening exercises with both classical and popular music, and possible connections between classical and popular music will be discussed.

Titel 3 Music theory and singing

In this theme, the students will be introduced to basic note theory: Notes and accidentals, keys and scales and triad chords. The purpose is to build a basic ability to recognize and read tonal structures and patterns in later work with sheet music. The text material used is C. Schmidt-Jones (ed.): Understanding Basic Music Theory, v. 3.74 (Connexions 2013), with external exercises related to the text.

Alongside the theory work, a choir arrangement of George Ezra: "Shotgun" will be practiced.

Theoretical and analytical work with the rhythm/groove parameter based on the evolution of soul, funk and disco music in the 1960s and 1970s. Thematic work on the three genres/styles and references to contemporary artists.
