Titel 2	New Zealand - Country and Identity As an introduction to the unit on New Zealand the students are introduced to a selection of non-fiction and fiction texts about New Zealand culture and maori identity versus white New Zealand. The film, "The Piano" is used as an example of New Zealand culture from a historical perspective, followed by more contemporary texts on New Zealand identity in modern times.

Titel 3	US - Identity and Culture The unit on American identity and culture is introduced through selected non-fiction texts on American identity, history and culture, followed by a selected number of fiction texts by Ernest Hemingway and Raymond Carver with an emphasis on minimalism as a genre. The film "Short Cuts" by Robert Altman is used as the final part of the Carver reading. The film, "Forest Gump", is also used to exemplify American culture and history.

Titel 4	UK - Identity and Culture Through the reading of a selected number of non-fiction and fiction texts the students are introduced to contemporary multicultural British society, followed by an introduction to colonial Britain and the reading of various texts connected to British colonialism in India, including the film, "Viceroy's House". Titel 5	Crime Fiction The students are introduced to crime fiction as a genre in general, as well as the main characteristics of the genre, followed by a selected reading of a short story by Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle with a particular focus on analysing the characteristics of the crime fiction genre of the texts and a characterisation of the well-known detective types of Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes. The unit concludes with the reading of a more contemporary crime fiction text by Patricia Highsmith and a discussion on why the genre of crime fiction continues to captivate readers to this day.

Titel 6	Identities in a globalised World and Lingua Franca In this unit the students are made familar with the term "Lingua Franca" from a past and present perspective, followed by the reading of a selected number of non-fiction and fiction texts on cultural identity in a globalised world, as well as a sense of "double identity" in having a different background than the culture you live in. The film, "Crash", is also used to exemplify the term multicultural identity in a modern, globalised world.
