Cross Cultural Communication - Text and video

Read the text and watch the video below:

Cross-cultural communication is communication between people from different cultures. The most obvious difference between cultures is language so it is important to make sure everyone is speaking the same language and has really understood what has been communicated to avoid any information getting lost in translation.

When communicating with people from other cultures, the communication is also influenced by cultural values and attitudes and it can be rather difficult to communicate effectively if there is a big difference between the two cultures. Sometimes something goes wrong and the message may not be received exactly the way the sender intended. The reason is that communication goes through a filter before being received and if there is too much "cultural noise", misunderstanding may occur and the sender risks offending, confusing or sending a misconstrued message which could lead to broken relations or a business deal going sour.

Effective communication involves minimising potential misunderstanding and overcoming any barriers to communication at each stage in the communication process. In business, cross-cultural communication plays a critical role in successfully carrying out business with partners in other areas of the world and when it comes to advertising, it is equally important to be an adept cross-cultural communicator.

Titel 16 Artificial Intelligence*

The course has focused on artificial intelligence and its impact on both the present and the future. Based on the documentary “The AI DOC: How I Became an Apocaloptimist”, two TED Talks by Sam Gregory and Victor Riparbelli, as well as an article written by ChatGPT, students have explored different perspectives on AI—from technological development to ethical dilemmas.
There has been a particular focus on source criticism in an age where AI can manipulate and produce highly convincing content, as well as on the importance of thinking critically and independently about information.
In addition, students have worked on structuring and writing an argumentative essay, developing their ability to express their own viewpoints and arguments in a nuanced and reflective manner.

Fagligt indhold / kernestof:

- The AI DOC: How I Became an Apocaloptimist (dokumentar)
- Sam Gregory: “When AI can fake reality, who can you trust?” (TED Talk)
- Victor Riparbelli: “Will AI make us the last generation to read and write?” (TED Talk)
- “A robot wrote this entire article. Are you scared yet, human?” (The Guardian, 8 Sep 2020, skrevet af ChatGPT)
