Titel 2 British Empire, Australia & New Zealand

The students have been introduced to a short colonial history of the UK and have worked with key concepts such as imperialism, inequality, pride, respect, and power-relations between people.
Focus has first been put on the UK as a colonial power and then we have worked with Australia and New Zealand both with focus on colonization and post-colonial issues. In relation to Australia, Aboriginals, The Stolen Generations and The Dreaming have been recurring topics with focus on identity, language and culture. In relation to New Zealand our focus has been on the Maori people, cultural expressions - amongst some The Haka and tribal tattoos.

We have worked with Hoffstede's theories about power relations within groups and Maffesoli's theory about Neo-tribalism and collective identity.

Last, English as Lingua Franca has been touched briefly upon in this topic.

Titel 5 Cli-Fi

The topic has dealt with climate change and the human position in relation to it. The students have worked with different genres and through their work they have come to terms with different contexts for writing / speaking about climate and climate changes. The topic has sought to get students to consider, discuss and take a stand within the debate, and we have discussed the effect of the messages the different materials (song lyrics, short stories, speeches, documentary, comercial) have intended. Why even write about climate changes? Does the sender succeed? Are climate changes a real problem?

Also: the topic has been part of a SRP-collaboration with Biology where the students have "translated" biological knowledge about climate changes and certain species into English poetry. The topic has meant to give food for thought and reflections about what different topics can contribute with (and how we work with different methods).
