Twisted Minds and stories:

Besides introducing and repeating a number of literary terms, we will in the course of this topic examine how stories with a plot twist have other purposes than creating suspence and surprise. Themes like "Urbanism", "Madness", "Love", "Greed" etc. can be found in the texts. Can the texts thus give us insight into our own lives?

Titel 2 Family

FAMILY:
Being a child or parent in a family involves navigating a complex array of experiences and responsibilities. For children, family is the primary environment where they learn, grow, and develop their identity. It is within the family that children first encounter love, support, and guidance, forming the foundation of their values and social skills. However, in many families, many conflicts arise, and thus, family life is not always pleasant.

Parents, on the other hand, take on the critical role of caregivers and role models. Howevner, many parents also find it hard to live up the societal norms that are implied in being a good and caring parent.

In the text about "family", we have taken a look at some of the challenges parents and children face.

Texts and materials we have read:

Kelly Cherry: The Parents (short story)

Penelope Lively: Clara's Day (short story)

Raymond Carver: Popular Mechanics (short story)

John Cheever: Reunion (short story)

Adrian Mitchell: Saw It in the Papers (poetry)

The Glass Castle (film)

Titel 3 South Africa (EKSAMEN)

Titel 4 Immigration/Multiculture in the UK (EKSAMEN)

Multicultural Britain:
Hvordan ser Storbritannien ud i dag?

Titel 7 The War in Vietnam (EKSAMEN)

The War in Vietnam

The conflict and the war in Vietnam is a landmark in modern American history, and the war is an integrated part of the American self-perception.

When working with this topic, we directed our attention to the American political engagement in the country, why did the USA get involved in the conflict?   how did the war develop?  What was the impact for the veterans who returned?   How did the they cope with the traumas of war?

Furthermore, we have studied the warfare in South-East Asia. How did the American soldiers cope with being soldiers in a foreign and strange country in a different part of the world in which they were unfamiliar with both nature and the population. Why did the American soldiers commit atrocities against the Vietnamese population? Finally we have looked at how the American public turned against the war in Vietnam, and what were the consequences for the veterans?
