Titel 1 The Art of Reading - Grundforløbet i engelsk

Eleverne introduceres til analyse af fiktion. Forløbet indledes med teori om ”shorties” med specielt fokus på 55-word-shorties og løbende suppleres med begreber, der bruges til analyse af fiktion. Dernæst analyseres en novelle og afslutningsvis et uddrag af en roman. Desuden prøver eleverne kræfter med selv at skrive six-word-stories.

Titel 3 Speeches

Forløb om taler og retorik, hvor vi tager udgangspunkt i de seneste jule- og nytårstaler fra UK og USA og derpå går til nogle berømte historiske taler, bl.a. Lincolns Gettysburg Address. Fokus på det retoriske pentagram som analytisk greb, retoriske virkemidler og introduktion til analyse af taler. Grammatisk fokus på adjektiver/adverbier, som vi bruger ifm. analysen af taler, samt ordstilling.

Titel 4 The Perks and Perils of Being Young (værk)

Forløbets formål er at arbejde med litterære begreber og redskaber, der bruges til at analysere fiktion - primært roman og noveller - samt opnå kendskab til genren Young Adult Fiction. Vi har indledningsvis set på, hvad der kendetegner genren Young Adult Fiction og koblet denne viden konkret til fokuspunkterne: plot, setting, characters and themes i romanen The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Vi har derefter analyseret et digt og en novelle, som tematisk også fokuserer på udfordringer ved at være ung.

Vi har arbejdet med funktionel grammatik i forløbet samt innovative arbejdsformer i mundtligt arbejde med romanen samt skriftlighed ifm. et digt eller en novelle og evt. frivillig deltagelse i skrivekonkurrence.

Titel 5 SoMe

Forløbet tager udgangspunkt i kapitlet om SoMe i grundbogen Footprints (Gyldendal, 2017) og skal via analyser af kortfilmen Noah (2013), kampagnevideoen Megan's Story og forskellige artikler i bogen analysere de sociale mediers rolle i vores liv. Derved kommer vi til at diskutere digital dannelse på forskellig vis, og desuden skal vi øve analyse af film og non-fiction samt arbejde med elevernes egne kommunikative evner og styrke deres genrebevidsthed samt bevidsthed om sprogligt stilleje.

Kapitlet i Footprints indledes således:

This section deals with social media and their influence on young people’s lives. The focus is on the possibilities today’s social media offer and the consequences the use of them may have – positive as well as negative. How are we influenced by always being online? Which issues should we pay special attention to? In an age when a lot of young people spend a great deal of their lives online, it is important for them to be aware of their digital footprints.

When you have worked with this section of the book,

- you will know about some of the opportunities social media offer
- you will have practised reading, understanding and interpreting different types of texts and genres

Titel 6 Worlds of Fantasy

Forløbet undersøger forskellige aspekter af fantasygenren - dens karakteristiske træk analyseres og fortolkes med ældre og nyere eksempler.

Vi bruger Anne Mette Finderup og Agnete Fogs Worlds of Fantasy (Systime, 2013) som grundbog, og starter med at læse denne bogs indledningskapitel om kendetegn ved genren, undergenrer m.v. Derpå læser vi først et klassisk eksempel på ældre fantasy: et uddrag af C.S. Lewis' 'The Narnia Chronicles: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' (1949). Siden læser vi uddrag af Tolkiens 'The Lord of the Rings' (1954-55) og nyere eksempler på genren som Neil Gaimans 'Neverwhere' (1996) samt J.K. Rowlings 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' (1997).

Endelig har vi set filmatiseringen af (og arbejdet med det engelske ord for filmatisering) 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' (2007) samt uddrag af filmatiseringen af 'The Lord of the Rings' - 'The Fellowship of the Ring' (2001).

Vi har i forløbet haft et sideblik på banned books i USA, som særligt skal forfølges i det kommende forløb.

Titel 7 The USA - Dream or Nightmare?

The American Dream or the American Nightmare

Formålet med forløbet er at introducere eleverne til begrebet The American Dream via en afsøgning af forskellige sider af dette centrale begreb i amerikansk selvforståelse, hvilket skal munde ud i en overvejelse over, om der er tale om en drøm eller et mareridt. Vi undersøger basic American values fra The Declaration of Independence til de senere år under præsident Obama, Trump og Biden ud fra analyse af fiction, non-fiction samt billedanalyse.

Anledningen er præsidentvalget i november 2024, og dermed er der endvidere fokus på det politiske system, emner i valgkampen, selve valget og betydningen af Trumps genvalg.

Del 2 af forløbet fokuserer på mareridtet med værklæsning af Margaret Atwoods sørgerligt aktuelle klassiker The Handmaid's Tale (1985), banned books etc.

Titel 9 Romanticism in England (exam)

Forløbet stiller skarpt på romantikken i England og perioden ca. 1789-1837. Vi tager udgangspunkt i et par af William Blakes digte og går derpå i dybden med William Wordsworth og første bølge af den engelske romantik samt anden bølge med Byron, Keats og Shelley. Titel 10 Class and Race in Britain - Past and Present

Som optakt til og efterbehandling af klassens studietur til Liverpool har vi i dette forløb arbejdet med Class and Race in Britain - Past and Present. Fokus i forløbet er dels lagt på skildringer af og fra Liverpool i forskellige genrer og tider. Herunder har vi desuden fokuseret på klasseforhold og i den sammenhæng kort kigget på klasseforskelle i Storbritanniens forskellige egne. Endelig har indvandring og det multikulturelle samfund været et gennemgående prisme for vores arbejde med disse dele af det britiske samfund, i særdeleshed betydningen af slavehandlen for ikke mindst Liverpools vækst til the second city of the Empire. Titel 11 India and the British Empire (exam)

Dette forløb fokuserer på andet engelsktalende land og behandler India primært under the British Raj med Storbritanniens rolle som kolonimagt i centrum, dvs. India as The Jewel in the Crown. Forløbet behandler desuden English as lingua franca (ELF) med udgangspunkt i Aatish Taseers artikel ‘How English Ruined Indian Literature’.

Forløbet har tre overordnede fokuspunkter:

1) Kolonimagten: Storbritannien som kolonimagt/The British Raj (1858-1947)

Vi læser  F. Scott Fitzgeralds klassiker 'The Great Gatsby' (1925) som værk med fokus på the Roaring Twenties og Den amerikanske drøm.


Forløbet rummer følgende tematiske nedslag i romanen:

1. The Roaring Twenties and The Great Gatsby (Prohibition, jazz, flappers etc.); 2. Gatsby and the Great War (with a parallel to Alan Seeger’s poem about the war, an extract from Hemingway’s ‘A Farewell to Arms’ (1929), and the role of the war in ‘The Great Gatsby’); 3. The American Dream and The Great Gatsby (How does the novel treat the American Dream?); 4. Titel 13 Love and Evil in Shakespeare's Macbeth (exam)

I forløbet læser vi uddrag af Shakespeares tragedie Macbeth (1606/1623) - act 1, 2 og 5 - med fokus på temaer som love and evil samt på the Elizabethan Age i et bredere perspektiv. Vi arbejder med en væsentlig litterær periode (britisk) med særligt fokus på dramagenren, sonetformen, Elizabethan language og datidens verdensbillede. Vi læser desuden to af Shakespeares sonetter: Sonnet 18 og 116 (begge 1609) samt et par korte uddrag fra Romeo and Juliet (1597).
