Starting with a brief introduction to the 2024 American presidential election, we will look into the idea and promise of ’The American Dream’, explore what it means, and assess whether or not the dream is still alive today. As we move along, we will identify core American values and touch upon four versions of the American dream: The immigrant dream, the middleclass dream, the entrepreneurial dream, and the New American Dream.
Examples of key words are: Individuality, freedom, mobility, opportunity, Inequality, privilege, immigration and education.

This course and novel introduce to New Zealand society, and Maori culture and history. Focus is on the novel genre, characterization and character development, plot structure, post colonialism, and writing style.

The course offers a brief introduction to Afro-American history in America, focusing in particular on the Civil Rights Movement and significant historical events in the 1960s.
