This theme focuses on the role of the residential schools in stripping Native Canadians of their cultural identity and on the psychological consequences. Furthermore, we have looked at what it means for Native Canadians today to hang on to their roots/culture and to be proud of their Native heritage.

Ich bin ein Berliner - EKSAMEN
Forløbet er læst i forbindelse med studietur til Berlin med engelsk og dansk, hvor vi bl.a. har besøgt DDR-museet og set på spor fra 2. verdenskrig rundt omkring i byen. De læste tekster omhandler det delte Berlin (1961-1989) set fra en amerikansk, politisk synsvinkel samt det menneskelige aspekt i form af mistænksomhed overfor andre mennesker (er de spioner?).
Desuden har der på studieturen været et mere almendannende fokus på de valg, der træffes mht. fremtiden. I den forbindelse har vi inden studieturen været til et foredrag om: Hjerneteknologi og kunstig intelligens – hvad gør det ved os? Og på studieturen har vi besøgt museet "Futurium" på en guided tour på engelsk.

The Hate U Give - EKSAMEN
This theme is based on the novel, "The Hate U Give", and the way it portrays being African American today, especially a young African American. It deals with themes such as coping with racism and ignorance on the part of some white people and with the pain of experiencing police brutality, living in a neighbourhood with gangs/gang violence and drugs, and the choice of using one's voice to change things and get justice. It also focuses on the importance of a strong family base and on normal, everyday life as a teenager.
Furthermore, we have talked briefly about some of the main persons and events in the history of African Americans, about Tupac Shakur from whom the title of the novel derives, and about code-switching.
