Dear HTX3, looking forward to see you all. In this class, I will give you an introduction to English, and then we will be working with our theme for this course: the brain! The text we will be working with in class, not homework: 1.2 The 65-second attention span: Technology has stolen our ability to focus. Can we get it back? (Johann Hari) \| The Science of... Hi HTX3, great effort last class. In this class, we will be focusing on our attention span and what technology is doing to us. At the beginning of the class we will start out with "Find a Fun Fact" about the brain and put it up on the white board. Thanks for playing along last time when it comes to your attention span. This time we will be working more meticulously with the brain itself. No homework. In this class, we will be working with smart devices and how they are such a big part of every day life now. No homework, but remember headphones, airpods and so on. In class, we will be reading: 1.4 Smart devices can now read your mood and mind, leading to a new set of concerns about technology and consent (Francesco Biondi) \| The Science of... In this class, we will be working with the consequences when it comes to using the internet. We will be reading the following text in class: 1.6 This is what the Internet does to your brain (Thomas Frank) \| The Science of... Schizophrenia in A Beautiful Mind Depiction \| Moment of Clarity We will be watching "A Beautiful Mind". We will start out by watching the last 15 minutes of "A Beautiful Mind". After that, a small exersise and then on to something as thrilling as: grammar ;-) Bring your A-Game.
