Titel 4 EXAM TOPIC: MIGRATION to the UK / US

In this topic, we've taken our point of departure in the European Refugee Crisis of 2015 to today. Eleverne får derudover et bredt kendskab til hvordan man kategoriserer mennesker, der af den ene eller anden grund befinder sig uden for deres oprindelsesland (ex-pats, immigranter, flygtninge, asylsøgere, osv.) og får læst værker skrevet om og af disse mennesker. Målet er dermed at give eleverne en historisk, kulturel og litterær indsigt i
livet under flugt eller immigration.

Titel 5 EXAM TOPIC: AUSTRALIA: Outlaws and Outcasts

In this topic, the focus has been on two groups of people who have traditionally been outsiders in the history of Australia: outlaws (British criminals subjected to transportation to the colony of Australia to serve their prison term, or offspring of such criminals - e.g. Ned Kelly) and outcasts (half-caste Aboriginal people like Molly (in "Rabbit-Proof Fence") and Mary (in "N'goola")). We have worked with the Aboriginal culture and religion (especially the concept of the Dreaming and the Aboriginal creation myth) as well as the concept of the Stolen Generation. Finally, we have worked on how our analyses and understanding of the texts in this topic are influenced by viewing the texts through a Postcolonial lens.

Titel 6 EXAM TOPIC: Black Voices and Structural Racism

Formålet med forløbet er at give eleverne indsigt i historiske og aktuelle former for strukturel racisme i USA gennem mødet med sorte stemmer i både fiktion, non-fiktion og medietekster. Eleverne arbejder med, hvordan racisme kommer til udtryk i lovgivning, samfundsstrukturer, litteratur og medier, og hvordan sproglige og retoriske virkemidler bruges til at formidle erfaringer med ulighed og undertrykkelse.
Forløbet styrker samtidig elevernes evne til at analysere, diskutere og formidle samfundsmæssige problemstillinger på engelsk.

Titel 7 Divided America

Forløbet Divided America undersøger polariseringen i nutidens USA med fokus på, hvordan politiske, kulturelle og moralske uenigheder præger samfundsdebatten. Eleverne arbejder med polarisering som begreb og ser på årsager til og konsekvenser af den voksende splittelse i det amerikanske samfund. Forløbet behandler både generelle tendenser i amerikansk politik og kultur samt to centrale konfliktområder: abortion and gun culture. Der fokuseres på, hvordan personlige erfaringer, ideologi og identitet former holdninger og argumentation. Eleverne arbejder med analyse af forskellige teksttyper og medier og udvikler deres evne til at diskutere komplekse samfundsmæssige problemstillinger på engelsk.
