The focus of this topic is to trace India's self-perception as a nation starting from the end of its time as a British colony to "the Empire writing back" in newer texts from India addressing various aspects of life and language in the country. TOPIC FOCUS: This topic was designed to explore the importance and contributions of women's voices to African-Americans' fight for equal rights from Harriet Tubman to Angie Stone. We focused on historical knowledge -- e.g. the Abolitionist movement; the Underground Railroad; the Civil Rights Movement; Post-Racist America -- and on text analysis -- e.g. film analysis; extended metaphor; the connection between language and mood/tone; choices of words.
