Forløbet beskæftiger sig med kulturen omkring "The American Dream". Det undersøges hvordan "fænomenet" i sin tid er opstået, samt hvordan det kommer til udtryk og påvirker den amerikanske kultur og identitet både med henblik på samfund og individ idag. Der anlægges både en historisk, en samfundskritisk og en litterær vinkel. Der læses både skøn- og fagliterære tekster. Yderligere indgår uddrag af både film og musik som medier i forløbet og Internettet bruges. Det skriftligt arbejde knyttes som altid i så høj grad som muligt til det daglige arbejde med emnet i undervisningen.

Hemingway og Minimalisme- den gode tekstlæsning.
Forløbet beskæftiger sig med tekstlæsning generelt. Vi arbejder med alle de traditionelle elementer i den gode tekstlæsning: sprog og stil, analyse; karakteristik, setting, symbolik, fortolkning, perspektivering m.v. Hemingway bruges som eksempel, da hans minimalistiske skrivestil lægger meget op til analyse og selvstændig fortolkning. Udover tekstarbejdet fokuserer vi på Hemingway som forfatter og person, Hemingways samtid, inter- og meta-tekstualitet, temaerne opvækst, religion, intermenneskelige relationer m.v.
Gennem forløbet læses et udpluk af novellerne fra 'In Our Time.
Med hensyn til det skriftlige arbejde i denne periode arbejder vi videre med fokus på det stilistiske. Vi eksperimenterer med forskellige genrer, men særligt beskæftiger vi os naturligvis med den minimalistiske novelle. Vi arbejder med varierede arbejdsformer i timerne, for at afprøve forskellige tilgange til teksterne.

Repetition af 3. års emner.
Mål: At opfriske centrale emner, tekster og materialer fra 3. år, samt at træne og forberede eleverne til mundtligt STX-eksamen ved at styrke præsentationsfærdigheder, selvtillid, mundtlige kompetencer og time management.
Fremgangsmåde:
Eleverne laver mundtlige præsentationer, helst i grupper (ok dog individuelt), som dækker kursusmaterialet og centrale emner.
