Titel 14 Reading Shakespeare in Our Time - EKSAMEN

Shakespeare is considered one of the most important writers in English literary history. Not only did he write about universal themes that audiences still relate to today, his use of language and imagery also had a lasting impact on British culture and literature.

In this topic we have explored the form of the Shakespearian sonnet and worked with his play "Macbeth". In doing so we have learned about Elizabethan theatre and its form.

We have been especially preoccupied with the development of the characters, the use of supernatural elements in the play, traits from the Renaissance, the idea of the Great Chain of Being as well as the genre and Shakespearian language.

We have also worked with at number of  Shakespeare's sonnets and we have looked into their form, use of motifs, symbols and their themes.

Texts read in class:

sonnets: 116, 18, 144, 147
The Prologue from Romeo and Juliet
Excerpts from 'Macbeth' in 'Reading Shakespeare in Our Time'
