SOME
This unit deals with social media and their influence on young people’s lives. The focus is on the possibilities today’s social media offer and the consequences the use of them may have – positive as well as negative. How are we influenced by always being online? Which issues should we pay special attention to? In an age when a lot of young people spend a great deal of their lives online, it is important for them to be aware of their digital footprints.
When you have worked with this unit,
you will have increased your knowledge of the challenges social media present
you will know about some of the opportunities social media offer
you will have practised reading, understanding and interpreting different types of texts and genres
you will have practised ways of expressing yourself in speaking and writing about social media.
Tekster læst:
- Patrick Cederberg and Walter Woodman: NOAH, A short film, 2013 (1 NS)
- Ali Smith, "After Life", short story, 2015 (1,5 NS)

Titel 3
Værklæsning: The Hate U Give

Great Speeches
In this unit, we have worked with different types of speeches. First, you have learned about types of speeches, modes of appeal and rhetorical devices. Then you have zoomed in on different examples of speeches. Each speech was examined not only for its rhetorical features but also in relation to its historical context. By exploring the time and society in which each speech was delivered, the unit also offered a historical perspective—highlighting how speeches reflect and respond to the social and political issues of their time. Focus has been on learning about rhetorical devices, identifying them and discussing their effect on a speech (or text).
In this unit, you also watched the movie The Darkest Hour to learn about Winston Churchill, life in the UK during World War II, and the power of speech in times of crisis.
Materialer:
PPTX om taletyper, appelformer og retoriske virkemidler
Abraham Lincoln: The Gettysburg Address (1863)
John F. Kennedy: Inaugural Address (1961)
Martin Luther King: I Have A Dream (1963)
Darkest Hour (film, 2017)
Barack Obama : Yes, We Can - victory speech (2008)
Key terms applied in the unit:
Rhetorical devices (see complete list in the compendium) - modes of appeal - metaphors (vehicle and tenor) - types of speeches (see complete list in the compendium)
Students can identify and know the difference between these types of speeches:
- A deliberative speech
- A judicial speech
- An epideictic speech

EXAM Shakespeare, love and the rennaissance

EXAM South African Perspectives
Kernestof:
Born a Crime, roman af Trevor Noah, 2016
Poem: Ingrid Jonker: "The child who was shot dead by soldiers in Nyanga
Short Story: Dan Jacobson: Stop Thief
Humphrey Tyler: Eyewitness Report
One of the Three, short story by Peter Abrahams, 1942
At the end of the unit, you should be able to:
-explain what apartheid was and when it started and ended
-explain who Nelson Mandela was + other key figures such as F.W. de Klerk
- know some of the laws that were created during Apartheid
-know how to write a paragraph
-know what to comment on when making a charaterization or commenting on the setting
-know how to find the main theme
-know relevant terminology related to Apartheid and the history of South Africa
- know how to identify different types of text and what characterizes different text types (e.g. eyewitness report, poetry, short story, autobiography vs. memoir).

Through Literary Landscapes
Project work about the literary periods:
Groups representing The Romantic Age, The Victorian Age, Modernism and Postmodernism have made presentations about the general characteristics of their period for the rest of the class and picked primary texts representing their period for everybody to work with. A part of the project has therefore also been to be able to understand and teach the rest of the class about the literary period and selected text. The unit has been complemented by three modules of poetry analysis where the students have analyzed poems from different literary periods.
The anthology by Niels Landbo Beck & Pia Rørkær Singh "Through Literary Landscapes - from the Romantic Age to Postmodernism". Systime, 2020 has been used.
The following texts have been the basis of the work:
The Romantic Age: Mary Shelly "Frankenstein" (excerpt p.60-63) + Nurse's Song (poem by William Blake)
The Victorian Age: Charles Dickens "Nobody's Story" (p. 120-124) + In a London Drawingroom (poem, George Eliot)
Modernism: Ernest Hemingway: "A Clean, Well-lighted Place" (p. 243-247)
Postmodernism: Paul Auster: "Auggie Wren's Christmas Story" (p. 282-287) + The Afterlife (poem by Billy Collins, 1990)
Learning targets:
- to explain the construction of a literary period.
- to account for major social conditions and historical events in the various literary periods.
- to analyse the characteristics of the various literary periods in the primary texts that have been part of the project.
- to know and be able to use the FLIRT model for analyzing poetry
- to be able to explain and share knowledge with peers (coteaching)
