GF ENGLISH: Sustainability
Today, sustainability is a highly important issue. We see evidence of this all around us – on the news, on social media and in the changing climate. In GF, we will explore the topic ‘sustainability’ through reading both fiction and non-fiction texts and discussing key issues relating to the topic.
Core material:
Fiction texts
”One World Down the Drain” Simon Rae (poem, 1990)
”The Moment” Margaret Atwood (poem, 1995)
”Drowning” Dakoda Barker (short story, 2014)
”The Larder” Morris Lurie (short story, 1984)
Non-fiction texts
“Our Story Going to Zero Waste” (documentary)
Mia Mottley’s speech at COP26 (2021)
Tweets by Donald Trump, Al Gore, Joe Biden and Elon Musk (2017-2023)

- explain what sustainability is (for example by referring to the UN Sustainable Development Goals)
- define fiction and non-fiction
- know what analytical aspects to look at in fiction and in non-fiction
- make a characterization (fiction)
- know how to use the rhetorical pentagon for non-fiction analysis
- explain the difference between summary and analysis
Have an understanding of the following grammatical aspects:
- concord/agreement (kongruens)
- nouns (substantiver (tællelige/utællelige))
- adjectives and adverbs (adjektiver og adverbier)
- know how to use the English-Danish and Danish-English dictionaries and have downloaded these
Have a basic understanding of how and when to use the following digital tools:
- PPT/Slides
