COURSE TITLE
London Crime, London Grime: the Streets of London from Charles Dickens to Dizzee Rascal

COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course seeks to provide students an overview of literature that uses London as a setting. From the 20th century, students are to read extracts from a novel describing the London Underground (Vine’s _King Solomon’s Carpet_) and a gangster novel set in 1960s London (Arnott’s _The Long Firm_). From the 21st century, a selection of so-called grime lyrics have been compiled in order to analyse and interpret how life on the streets of London is now depicted compared to what we see in earlier works above.
