We'll read Bernadine Evaristo's novella "Hello Mum" with a focus on character, theme and how the setting reflects real-life problems of young black men in London's gang environment. We have also read about Britain as a multicultural nation with a focus on language variety as well as the experience of being a non-white British citizen.

Titel 3 02 Fairy tales and fantasy


The primary learning objective for this course has been to gain an understanding of the fairy tale genre by reading both folk tales, literary tales and modern fairy tales, looking at how fairy tales have been and continue to be rewritten in various forms while still retaining familiar elements of the genre.

We've also worked with gender in language and political correctness and how feminism can be used in re-writing fairytales and questioning male/ female stereotypes and adding new layers of meaning.

We've watched Clio Bernard's film "The Selfish Giant" which is in part inspired by Wilde's story of the same name. Our focus of attention in relation to the film has been how it mirrors elements of Wilde's story and what we look for when analyzing a film.

Titel 5 04 The American Dream (EKSAMEN)

In this course we've worked with American identity and the history of America with a focus on the values and beliefs inherent in the American dream. We have read about the European settlers and where the vision/idea of American came from and how it developed.

We have zoomed in on the experience of being black in America and the fight of the black community and the civil rights movement for being included in society and obtaining the rights laid out in the American constitution. We've watched Raoul Peck's "I'm not your Negro" for in inside view into the division between black and white in America.

In relation to the elections, we have also worked with the American political system and how Americaness is experienced and interpreted by the poor white Americans, and the beliefs and values of the American hillbilly.

Keywords: idealism, constitutional rights, self-reliance, can-do-spirit, the selfmade man, the frontier spirit, slavery, emancipation, segregation, civil-rights movement, AAVE, melting-pot/salad bowl, cultural diversity/multiculturalism, systemic racism.

Titel 8 07 Truthers - conspiracy theories

In this course we worked with conspiracy theories. We've looked at how people who stand behind different conspiracy theories argue their case as well as what makes people believe in conspiracies and the psychology behind. We looked at the genre of narrative non-fiction and its characteristics.

We've read about recovered memories, logical fallacies in argumentation and how to spot conspiracies. Lastly we have watched the Netflix, 2024 documentary "The Anti-social Network" about viral conspiracies, the role of the Internet and social media in spreading conspiracy theories.

Titel 9 08 India and the British Empire (EKSAMEN)

The learning objective of this course has been understand different aspects of India's culture and history.

We have worked more closely with the British rule in Indian and how this was justified by the British in the beginning of the Raj and how later even the British themselves began to question the mindset and mentality governing the rulers. Also we've looked into the genre features of postcolonial literature and how to analyze this.

Titel 10 09 Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet (EKSAMEN)


In this course we have worked with Shakespeare's time, the Elizabethan Era, and how life was in this time period and how different ideas about the world i.e the Great Chain of Being, the idea of the four humours, superstition, religion, chaos and are reflected in Shakespeare's writings. We have read about what characterizes a tragedy and the tragic hero and how Shakespeare used humour in his tragedies.

We've worked with the language and the very many different literary devices that Shakespeare used so eloquently and creatively in "Romeo and Juliet". We've watched Baz Luhrman's film adaptation of the play with a focus on how it both modernizes and retains elements from the original play.
