This theme focuses on the individual and society - how we conform, react and take part in society. There is also a focus on climate change and social systems that could control people's behaviour. Also, the course ends with a focus on Dystopian fiction and the genre’s critique of current trends.

Horror!
This course aims to make students aware of specific genre conventions of horror in literature. The course emphasizes the analysis of short stories and novel excerpts, exploring the use of literary devices—particularly symbolism, first-person narration, and the creation of tone, mood, and atmosphere. The course also explores the distinction between different types of horror, particularly the differences between realistic, psychological, and supernatural horror.
In terms of grammar, the focus is on prepositions and the function and inflection of adjectives.

Science and Ethics
This course examines the ethical challenges that come with new scientific advancements, with a primary focus on biotechnology and 'cloning'. We approach the topic by reading a variety of texts, which span from dystopian fiction and film to non-fiction in the form of articles and lectures. Throughout the course, the students work on a set of relevant terms and concepts (vocabulary), and are introduced to tools of analysis related to the various mediums and genres of the texts: literary devices (foreshadowing, in medias res), cinematic techniques, the rhetorical pentagon, and Toulmin's model of argument.

The Cult of Celebrity
Dette forløb har til formål at udforske forskellige aspekter af den berømthedskultur, som i stigende grad har fået indflydelse i den vestlige verden gennem de seneste årtier. Hvorfor er vi så fascinerede af berømmelse?
Gennem diskussion og analyse ser vi nærmere på Andy Warhols profeti om, at alle en dag vil længes efter deres ”15 minutters berømmelse”. Vi undersøger, hvor langt beundringen af idoler kan strække sig, og overvejer både fordele og ulemper ved livet i rampelyset. Forløbet lægger op til en kritisk refleksion over, hvordan jagten på berømmelse former vores medier, vores kultur og vores identitet.

Animal Farm (Dystopian Fiction)
This course is focused on Orwell's 1945 novel Animal Farm. We look into the allegorical and satirical nature of Animal Farm, in order for students to be able to critically analyze the novel. By the end of this course, students will have a firm understanding of the socio-political context of the novel; the key players and events of the Russian revolution, which will better prepare students to understand the symbolism of the text. We primarily focus on the following literary elements: symbolism, narrative technique, main themes, and characterization.
