Food Waste
We work with the theme food waste / overconsumption. We read different texts about our overconsumption in the industrialised world. In groups you make pamphlets based on some of the articles in the compendium. You present the pamphlet to me (and an opponent group).

Health
Within the theme health, we mainly focus on the problem of obesity. We read several articles about this modern life challenge, and we discuss the many health related problems we might face in the future if we don’t come up with good solutions, hence focus is on the consequences – both politically, socially and personally - of not living as we ought to and how to face the obesity related challenges.
We finish the theme with an oral presentation on health related issues of your own choice.

The English Speaking World
The English speaking world - from Colonisation to Multicultural Britain
We talk about The British Empire and compare the time back then to what is happening in the UK today.
We also deal with the English language and the history of the UK, as well as the confusion - England/Britain/GB/UK - what's in a name?
We read texts about the British Empire, cultural differences today and Britain being a multicultural society.
Focus is on pronounciation as well as getting used to communicating in English.
Kernestof:
Being British - Nations and cultural differences in Britain pp. 5 - 12 (Mustad, Jan Erik et.al. Gyldendal 2014)
Being British - Britain in the world pp. 84 - 90 (Mustad, Jan Erik et.al. Gyldendal 2014)

American Ways
We will talk about American history, values and beliefs. The American Dream is analysed, and focus is on how it is reflected in American lives. Why do the Americans believe in 'The American Dream', and what does independence mean to the Americans? The American political system will be covered in this theme as well.
We will also address the issue of racism and look closer into slavery and the racial segregation of the 1950 and 1960s. Besides reading some of the pages in American Ways (I'll give you a compendium with the relevant texts and articles) we watch YouTube clips and the film: ‘12 years a slave’ (2013).
To finish our topic about the USA, you willl make a presentation about a topic of your own choice, however, related to aspects within the USA. You base your presentations on several articles, film clips as well as texts dealt with in class.

Battle of Beliefs
This topic tries to unfold how people have quite different opinions on how earth was created. We focus on both creationism (mainly in the USA) and the theory of evolution. Also, emphasis is put on the ‘theory’ of intelligent design and how some people, today, believe that creationism should be taught alongside evolution. The topic allows us to discuss the different views and relate the beliefs of Americans, in the so-called Bible Belt, to our American Ways topic earlier this year.
